The 2023 governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Gombe State, Khamisu Mailantarki, has resigned from the party.

Our correspondent reports that Mailantarki lost the election having been declared third by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the election where Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, candidate of the All Progressives Congress won, followed by candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Jibrin Barde.

According to a resignation letter  obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday, which was acknowledged by the chairman of Herwagana ward, Yakubu Saleh, dated July 10, 2024, Mailantarki lauded the party for the opportunity to serve.

The letter partly read, “I am writing to inform you of my intention to resign from my position as a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party. This will be effective from Wednesday, July 10, 2024. Please accept my resignation letter and be notified from the date stated above.

“I deeply express my appreciation to all the executive members as well as other who saw me through my entire journey in 2023 elections while contesting for the office of the Governor in Gombe State under the platform of the NNPP.”

PUNCH Online reports that the former House of Representative member did not reveal the new political party he would join.
