The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno has announced his plan to build 400 more compassionate homes for the less privileged families to reduce housing shortages.
According to the governor, the homes are a part of a housing scheme initiated by the government to provide decent accommodation for the underprivileged in the state.
Eno said the vision was to expand the initiative to touch even more lives if granted a second term in office.
He stated this at the inauguration of the Compassionate Home in Ikot Nkan
The governor explained that his visit was not only to inaugurate the home but to celebrate an extraordinary act of kindness among the beneficiaries.
He recounted how, during the selection process, a neighboring resident, also in need, offered part of his land to ensure a beneficiary had enough space for the new home.
The Governor praised this selfless gesture, calling it a rare and commendable act that should be encouraged.
He also announced the award of contract for the construction of the Ikot Nkan road to provide better access to the newly built homes.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Onna Local Government Council, Kufre Umoren expressed appreciation to the governor for his compassionate gesture towards the less privileged.
