Gov Yusuf Seeks Kano Assembly’s Approval For ₦99 Billion Supplementary Budget

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has formally requested the House of Assembly to sanction a supplementary budget amounting to ₦99,221,503,569.90 for 2024.

Naija News reports that this request was made during a plenary session led by Speaker Ismail Falgore, who indicated that the proposal aligns with Sections 122 (A) and (B) of the 1999 Constitution, aimed at expediting the implementation of priority projects that will enhance the welfare of the citizens of Kano State.

The supplementary budget allocates ₦33,761,174,555.64 for personnel expenses, ₦34,492,888,103.44 for overhead costs, and ₦30,969,440,940.80 for capital investments.

Following the governor’s presentation, the State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, briefed pressmen that the original budget for 2024 was set at ₦437,338,312,787.

If the supplementary budget receives approval, the total budget for 2024 will increase to ₦536,559,816,357.84, Naija News understands.

Shanono further elaborated that the supplementary budget would facilitate the payment of the new minimum wage, among other essential expenditures.

He also emphasized the government’s dedication to promoting infrastructural development, enhancing human capital, and improving the health and education sectors.

In a related discussion during the same plenary session, Yusuf Aliyu, the representative for Nassarawa Constituency, introduced a motion calling for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Gwagwarwa Mini Stadium.

Aliyu pointed out that the current condition of the stadium has resulted in its misuse, contributing to drug trafficking and insecurity within the community.

He underscored the need to revitalise the stadium to foster sports development and enhance regional security, urging the government to prioritize this initiative.
