The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government will do everything to ensure the availability of food at affordable prices to Nigerians.
This is as he disclosed that the government plans to continue the trajectory of downward inflation.
He disclosed this in his remarks at the National Economic Dialogue 2024 organised by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group in Abuja on Wednesday.
He noted that despite Nigeria’s 25 years of democracy, the country’s economy is still on the path of growth.
According to him, the government will do everything to ensure more availability of food at affordable prices for Nigerians.
“Democracy may not be the only form in which to organise a society, but I think all of us agree that it is the best.
“And it’s always a work in progress, trying to improve our democracy. And, indeed, today’s dialogue is an effort in that direction.
“Overall, inflation has started coming down. And we are planning on maintaining that trajectory of downward inflationary trend and overall reduction in food inflation.
“More availability of food at affordable prices is the goal of the administration in the immediate term,” he said.
The National Bureau of Statistics’ July inflation data showed that Nigeria’s inflation declined to 33.40 per cent.
However, Nigerians have continued to decry the harsh economic realities caused by the high prices of goods and services.
