Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi has joined the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Federal Mortgage Bank in laying the foundation for the construction of the Housing Estate for civil servants in Dutse, the capital of the state.
Governor Namadi, who laid the foundation for the 1st phase of 59 housing units, described the project as a welcome development in promoting the wellbeing of the civil servants.
Governor Namadi who was represented by his senior special adviser on Labor Matters Comrade Tsoho Garba said, his government would give all necessary support for actualizing the project that has great benefits to the civil servants and the state in general.
According to him, the state government is currently executing over 1,500 housing units in five emirates and some major towns in the state, with the aim of providing affordable housing to civil servants.
In his remarks, the state Head of Civil Service, Muhammad K. Dagacire, said the provision of affordable and decent accommodations is very imperative in enhancing the welfare of civil servants, which, In return, will give them the courage and comfortability to provide the best service delivery to the public.
In his address, the chairman of the Trade Union Congress Jigawa State chapter, Comrade Bashir Tijjani Abubakar, revealed that the project was conceived out of the overwhelming interest of TUC national headquarters in pursuing the well-being of the workers.
Comrade Bashir noted that TUC, in partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank and private developers, is expected to deliver the houses within one year for the workers’ benefit.
The managing director of Federal Mortgage Bank, Mr Shehu Usman Osidi, in his remarks at the occasion, said that they have so far financed about six different housing estate projects in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State.
The MD, who was represented by the Northwest regional manager of the bank, noted that the civil servants’ Housing Estate would be 100 per cent funded by the Bank, and they are the only institutions in Nigeria that are providing housing loans below 10 per cent interest.
