The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Rural Development, has empowered 150 residents in Epe with essential fish farming materials as part of its efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector and create economic opportunities.
A Thursday statement noted that the initiative, held in the Igbodu area of Epe and coordinated by the Centre for Rural Development, provided specialised training for both youths and adults.
The programme provided participants with hands-on knowledge of modern fish farming techniques, guiding them from the rearing stage to sales.
Beneficiaries were equipped with vital skills to enhance productivity and sustainability in their fish farming ventures.
Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Agbaje, highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting fish farmers beyond just training.
“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ensured that this initiative goes beyond skill acquisition. Beneficiaries are being provided with adequate fish feed to sustain their farming activities up to the point of sales, eliminating additional financial burdens,” Agbaje stated.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, Kikelomo Bolarinwa, encouraged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity, emphasising the importance of dedication and consistency in achieving success.
“The government is not just training fish farmers but also providing them with the necessary tools to thrive. However, long-term success in this sector requires persistence and a willingness to apply the knowledge gained,” she remarked.
At the conclusion of the programme, 150 participants received smoking kilns, fish feeds, and tanks to help them establish and expand their fish farming businesses.
