Osun State College of Technology (OSCOTECH), Esa-Oke, witnessed a significant milestone with the commissioning of a N15m solar-powered streetlight project.
This initiative, driven by the Esa-Oke Renewal Initiative (ERI) in collaboration with Cedrus Group Africa, marks a promising step in the institution’s quest for sustainable development and enhanced campus safety.
During the commissioning ceremony, the Rector of OSCOTECH, Dr. Samson Akinbamide Adegoke expressed his profound gratitude for the successful completion of the project.
He acknowledged the importance of the college’s relationship with its host community and how the collaboration has started yielding positive results. Adegoke said: “This Solar Lighting of the campus we are all witnessing today, to me, is the first and the beginning of many good things that we have been yearning for from the host community for years. We believe we would soon be able to list more projects embarked on by the host community for the College.”
He further highlighted the reciprocal benefits between the college and the Esa-Oke community, emphasising that the college’s presence has contributed significantly to the town’s development since its establishment in 1992.
He called on the community, including the alumni, to continue their support by contributing to other critical needs of the institution, such as the construction of hostels, classrooms, and laboratories.
The CEO of Cedrus Group Africa, Mr. Olubusayo Adeniyi, underscored the project’s broader significance. “This project is more than just a series of lights illuminating our paths. It is a powerful statement of our commitment to sustainability, community development, and a brighter future for all,” Adeniyi said.
He explained that the project aligns with Cedrus Group Africa’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. “By harnessing the power of the sun, we are reducing the community’s reliance on fossil fuels, thereby decreasing carbon emissions and contributing to a cleaner, greener environment,” he noted.
Also speaking, Osun State Commissioner for Education, Eluwole Sunday Adedipo said: “Education is light and life. Without education, we are ignorant and nobody, and without light, there is no education,” he stated.
He urged the rector and the alumni to continue their efforts in elevating the college’s status, as government alone cannot meet all the needs as educational institutions.
