Interfaith Public Health Advocacy Lagos State (IPHAL), with support from The Challenge Initiative (TCI), has taken free Family Planning (FP) services to Mushin in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the outreach targeted couples of reproductive age.
NAN also reports that FP methods vary and work differently for individuals.
Mrs Morenike Idowu, Christian Coordinator, IPHAL Mushin Local Government Area, said religious leaders strongly influence their members and urge them to encourage them to embrace FP.
Idowu lamented the challenge of purchasing FP services, saying they enlighten potential clients to prioritise their health.
According to her, some couples will only use the free FP services if they are mobilised with a stipend.
Similarly, Mr Saheed Olanijo, IPHAL Muslim Coordinator, Mushin LGA, said he was on the ground to ensure the Muslim community in the area fully embraced FP.
He advised that the days and the venue for the outreach should be reconsidered to ensure improved participation, noting that many traders would stay in their stores to attend lectures on FP.
A beneficiary, Mrs Kudirat Olanijo, said she embraced FP to plan her family, saying this was her second time.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Ajoke Amudalat, said she opted for a condom, disclosing that she had been using it for the past three years with her spouse.
Amudalat said there had been no complications, describing the outreach as a welcome development.
