No fewer than five persons have been reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen during an attack on Egwuma community in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue.
Reliable sources told DAILY POST the attack on the community occurred on Sunday.
A community source, who does not want to be mentioned for security reasons, stated that the assailants were herdsmen.
According to the source, the herders arrived around 2 pm on Sunday, attacked the community and killed villagers.
The source said: “Youths searched the bush and recovered five dead bodies of villagers.”
He added that youths have mobilised themselves to defend the community from the invaders and security agencies have been informed.
As of the time of this report, sources said the attack on Egwuma is still ongoing.
When contacted on the telephone, Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anne, said she hadn’t been briefed on the incident.
