The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu has inaugurated a committee to sell food at a 55 percent discounted price to citizens.
This was disclosed on Monday by Governor Aliyu at the inauguration event in the state.
According to him, the committee is expected to facilitate the sale of government-procured essential food commodities to citizens at a discount of 55 percent to cushion the impact of the country’s economic hardship.
“In this new approach, the state government procured food items and other essential commodities meant to be sold at a 55% discounted rate to enable families to access the commodities for the well-being of their members”.
The development comes as Nigeria’s food inflation for August 2024 stood at 37.52 percent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
The Food and Agriculture Organization, an arm of the United Nations in July warned that 80 million Nigerians may slip into severe hunger.
