Heads Will Roll, I Won’t Allow Things To Lie Low — Minister Fumes Over Poor Olympics Performance

The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh has said that government officials who contributed to the failure of Nigeria in the just concluded 2024 Paris Olympics will be relieved of their duties.

Enoh stated this during an appearance on Channels Television on Wednesday.

He assured that all the problems that arose during the games would be interrogated.

All of those things, I am going to engage, I am going to interrogate.

“You don’t fire unless you interrogate. I have always stated my determination that I am not going to allow things to lie low; I am going to take them up one by one,” he said.

Asked if heads will roll, the minister said, “Well, if that is what it takes; if my findings and interrogations get to that point that people become liable, people become responsible, for the kind of negative publicity that we had at the Olympics, why not?”

Enoh further said the different sporting federations in the country need comprehensive reforms for efficient sports development.

The minister, who apologised to Nigerians over the poor outing in Paris, indicted the leadership of sporting federations for the lacklustre performance, emphasising the need for systems and structures at the federations to get the best athletes to represent Nigeria and get the desired medals in the next games.

I’ve always stated that we need to reform our federations,” he added.
