Renowned Hollywood actor, Denzel Washington, has embraced a new calling as a gospel minister after receiving his minister’s license. The 69-year-old star was baptized by Archbishop Christopher Bryant at Kelly Temple in New York City on Saturday, marking a significant spiritual milestone in his life.

In a heartfelt statement, Washington expressed gratitude and faith, saying, “It took a while, but I’m finally here… If (God) can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you. The sky literally is the limit.”

Archbishop Bryant shared the joyous moment on Facebook, celebrating Washington’s entry into the clergy of the Church of God in Christ.

This new chapter comes as Washington reflects on the challenges of discussing faith in the entertainment industry. Speaking to Esquire, the Academy Award-winning actor noted, “You can’t talk about religion in this town and expect to win Oscars or be part of the party scene. But I don’t care what anyone thinks. I’m unafraid.”

Washington also expressed skepticism about the term “Hollywood,” stating, “There’s no such thing as Hollywood. It’s just a street called Hollywood Boulevard. What does it even mean?”

Despite his spiritual journey, the actor remains uncertain about the faith of his colleagues, explaining, “It’s not like we all meet somewhere and discuss what we believe. I didn’t do any poll. How would I find that out?”

Washington’s illustrious career spans decades, with standout performances in films like Training DayMalcolm XThe Book of Eli, and Fences. He first rose to fame in the 1982 medical drama St. Elsewhere and has since cemented his legacy as one of Hollywood’s finest talents.
