The highly anticipated 2024 CAF Awards will take place later tonight, December 16 at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco.
Note that Nigeria is likely to return to the country with seven CAF Awards as the country’s contingents have been nominated in five categories of the award.
Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman and Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, are both contending for the prestigious CAF Player of The Year awards in their respective categories.
The men’s category features Lookman in fierce competition with four other notable nominees, including Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams. Lookman.
Nnadozie is also a formidable contender, competing for the Women’s Player of The Year award against Morocco’s Sanaa Mssoudy and Zambia’s Babra Banda. Additionally, she is a leading candidate for the Women’s Goalkeeper of The Year award.
If both players secure victories in their respective categories, Nigeria will celebrate its third win for both awards—following the successes of Nwankwo Kanu and Mercy Akide-Udoh in 1999, as well as Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala in 2023.
