Huawei, Rana Energy Partner On NDC’s 5MW Energy Security Programme

Global technology company Huawei has reaffirmed its dedication to advancing Nigeria’s energy infrastructure through its collaboration with Rana Energy, which successfully energised phase 1 of the National Defence College 5 MW Energy Security Programme.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Defence, was at Abuja’s recent flagging-off of the energy security programme. The programme is said to aim to boost energy production in Nigeria. Also, Phase 1 of the 5MW Energy Security Programme marked the successful energization of 1 MW of solar and battery systems at NDC headquarters.

During the energization at the National Defence College in Abuja, Zhang Jim, a Board Director at Huawei Nigeria, highlighted the importance of this initiative. He said, “This is precisely what we have been aiming for. By integrating our product across the electric network, we are supporting the current infrastructure and paving the way for Nigeria to use more renewable energy in the future. We are happy that this approach will result in significant cost savings over time.

“Today, we are here to celebrate this milestone and to engage with our partners, Rana Energy and National Defense College (NDC). Our presence here is to support them, and this partnership is crucial as we work together towards a more sustainable and cost-effective energy future for Nigeria.”

Zhang reiterated Huawe’s commitment to advancing the country’s energy capabilities and fostering a cleaner, greener future for all.

The chief executive officer of Rana Energy, Abraham Mohammed, was also present at the event. Rana Energy is a Nigerian-based AI Clean Energy Technology startup backed by Google and Techstars. The company is committed to building innovative solutions for the region’s energy crisis.
Mohammed said, “The NDC’s 5 MW Energy Security Program is a 3-phase program to transition Nigeria’s most prestigious military college from diesel to solar power.It is a first-of-its-kind partnership in Nigeria, bringing together NDC’s Strategic leadership role in nation-building led by the Commandant, Rear Admiral OM Olotu, Rana’s innovation and delivery expertise and Huawei technology, to actualise the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who urged the nation to utilise all available resources to increase energy production.”
