The management of the Bayero University Kano has ordered the immediate halt of all academic activities at the institution.

Naija News reports that this decision was communicated in an official statement issued on Monday by the Deputy Registrar, Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, acting on behalf of the Acting Registrar.

A copy of this statement shared with newsmen on Monday said: “After a careful review of the situation in Kano State as a result of the National Protest, the University Management has directed that all scheduled lectures should be suspended forthwith.”

The University Management expressed appreciation to the members of the university community for their support and collaboration in fostering a tranquil environment throughout its campuses.

Once normal conditions are restored, all academic and administrative functions will be reinstated in their entirety, the statement noted.

Students living on the campuses are encouraged to remain composed and adhere to the law, as sufficient measures have been established to guarantee their safety.

“The Management, in particular, is concerned with the safety of lives and property and, therefore, enjoins the members of the University community to continue to be cautious about their movements outside the campuses to avoid exposure to any possible danger,” the statement added.

Naija News understands that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, conveyed his disappointment regarding the results of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, emphasizing that they have reversed years of advancement in the state.

He also expressed concern about the damage done to the Nigerian Communications Commission digital centre, a facility worth billions of naira, which was intended to provide Kano’s youth with digital skills and certification in internet and computer proficiency.

Addressing newsmen at the Palace on Friday, the Emir said, “Today is a sad day for the people of Kano due to what has happened in the state. We sympathise with the entire indigent population of Kano.”

Meanwhile, security operatives in the state had, during the weekend, initiated a house-to-house search to recover items stolen during the #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria protest in Kano.
