I Am Committed To Your Suggestions – Kenya President Bows To Protesters

Kenya President, Williams Samoei Ruto, on Friday bowed to protesters, pledging he will implement all their suggestions.

Kenya, an East African country, was engulfed in heavy protest from citizens, mostly youths between the teenage age to forty years.

Christened Gen Z protesters, the youths demanded that Williams Ruto government cancel the 2024 Finance Bill.

When Kenyan Parliament passed the 2024 Finance Bill against the demand of the protesters, the youths occupied the parliament.

Many deaths have been recorded, and many of the protesters were also arrested by the police.

Ruto, following outcries of police brutality and extrajudicial killings by Kenya Police, including condemnation from the United Nations Secretary-General – António Guterres, canceled the Finance Bill passed by parliament.

On Thursday, July 4, Ruto announced a three hours X space tagged “Let’s Engage“.

After the X space, President Ruto announced that he valued all knowledge shared by the youths in the X space.

He added that he was committed to addressing all issues raised by the youths. He pledged to put into execution all suggestions.

“I was honoured to engage young people on X Space and to discuss the affairs of our country. I value their knowledge, ideas and suggestions on how to transform our country.

“I am also committed to addressing the issues they raised and the concerns they have to ensure we forge a new, inclusive and sustainable path for all Kenyans,” President Ruto said.

On June 29, President Ruto said his administration has deliberate programmes and policies to create job and income opportunities for our young people.

“The government has deliberate programmes and policies to create job and income opportunities for our young people. These include the Affordable Housing Programme, digital jobs, labour migration and industrialisation through county aggregation and industrial parks and special economic zones.

“The proposed youth and multi-sectoral forums will give the youth and other stakeholders a platform to discuss these and other national economic challenges that face our country,” he said in an engagement with 96 bishops, led by Archbishop Samson Muthuri of the African Independent Pentecostal Church Africa in State House, Nairobi.

On Sunday, June 30, the Kenyan President resolved he would give audience to the protesters.

He wrote on his X handle, “Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them so that everyone may see your progress. – 1 Peter 2:1-3.“
