Portuguese football icon, Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed the reason behind his emotional reaction to missing a crucial penalty kick during the Euro 2024 tournament.

Cristiano Ronaldo revealed that he was deeply affected by the miss, even though he understood that it was a part of the game.

Ronaldo explained that he felt a sense of disappointment because he wanted to perform well for the fans and everyone who supported him.

“I cried the day I missed the penalty even though I thought Oblak made a great save,” Cristiano Ronaldo said on his UR Cristiano YouTube channel.

“When I cried, it wasn’t because I felt that if I missed and if Portugal were eliminated, the world would collapse on me. It’s not because of that.

“Imagine in the last 27 penalties, you score. I missed you and at that moment, you thought bad about me; I didn’t even think about that.

“The people who come to the stadium, your kids, your mom, your girlfriend, everyone. I felt sad because of that.”

Note that Cristiano Ronaldo ended up redeeming himself by helping Portugal to advance to the next round of the tournament after beating Slovenia via penalties.

Meanwhile, the 39-year-old Ronaldo also addressed the media’s focus on him, explaining that while he understands the attention, it’s important to focus on the positive aspects of his career.

He argued that he didn’t become the most followed human being on social media because of his “pretty face” but because of his personality as a whole.

Ronaldo said, “It is much more easy to criticize than to appreciate what you really have. We know how the press works.

“If you speak good, it doesn’t sell. You have to speak badly. It is normal. And if you speak about Cristiano, you’re coming on the first page because I am the most followed guy in the world.

“It’s not only because of my pretty face but in everything.”
