ICAN Abuja Chair Vows To Uphold Professional Tenets, Build Secretariat

The newly sworn-in 14th Chairman of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Abuja and District Society, Dr Adeadebayo Shuaib, has promised to uphold the tenets of the accounting profession and build a befitting secretariat for the District during his tenure.

Shuaib disclosed this while delivering his acceptance speech as the 14th chairman of ICAN Abuja and District Society at his Investiture ceremony held at NAF Centre, Abuja on Wednesday.

Shuaib who rolled out his five-point agenda said top on the list is to ensure that the building of a secretariat for ICAN Abuja begins at the Abuja Technology Village.

He said: “Presently, ICAN Abuja does not have office of its own.We will do all we can within this executive year to lay foundation of our befitting secretariat soon.Just few days ago we visited the Abuja Technology Village and the MD and his team took us to the site were our secretariat is to be located.”

Shuaib said the second on the list of the new executives agenda is capacity building, empowerment and training of members.”We are Chartered  but we are to key into current trends hence we will organise training for our members in Artificial Intelligence, Advanced  Excel, Financial modelling to equip members with cutting-edge skills to enhance professional competences and marketability.”

The 60th president of ICAN, Davidson Stephen Alaribe said the Abuja District is the unity district which represents the institute at the centre.

“The Abuja District is one of the effective districts due to its closeness to the seat of power and plays the role of bridging the gap between the institute and the different arms of government.” Alaribe said.

He tasked the new executive to collaborate with the chairman to help them achieve their goals and vision and take the institute to greater heights.

The chairman of the occasion and lead consultant, Periscope Consulting Ltd, Bayo Adams charged accountants to broaden their horizon, think global but have a local content.”I charge you accountants to broaden your horizon. Don’t just know the accounting standards but other industries,”Adams said.
