Groups, operating under the auspices of the Ijaw Diaspora Council (IDC) and Ijaw Women Connect, have announced a strategic partnership aimed at reshaping and reengineering the socio-economic landscape of the Ijaw nation.

The synergy is billed to drive transformative initiatives across key sectors of the Ijaw economy, including education, healthcare, and agriculture, with a special emphasis on empowerment of women.

According to a statement issued by the General Secretary of the IDC, Dr. Edward Agbai, yesterday, the partnership drive was a commitment to honour the legacy of a former President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Tari Sekibo, who it described as a revered figure in the Ijaw community.

The statement reads: “The former INC President was known for his tireless advocacy for Ijaw unity and self-determination. His leadership was instrumental in championing the rights of the Ijaw people within Nigeria, particularly in the face of environmental degradation caused by oil exploration. The partnership’s flagship event, a memorial lecture in Sekibo’s honour, will serve as both a tribute to his enduring contributions and a platform to discuss the ongoing struggle for socio-political justice in the Niger Delta.

“The IDC and IWC’s collaboration will also launch a series of educational initiatives designed to equip Ijaw people with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in today’s world.

“Among these is the TechHer Project, which aims to empower 40 women in each zone with essential technology skills, thereby bridging the digital divide and opening new opportunities for women in the community.”
