Four members of the Imo State House of Assembly have been suspended for allegedly plotting to impeach the Speaker, Chike Olemgbe.
The suspended members are Samuel Otuibe, (Ahiazu-Mbaise), Henry Agbasonu (Ezinihitte-Mbaise), Chidiebere Ogbunikpa (Okigwe) and Dominic Ezerioha (Oru-West).
Announcing the suspension during plenary yesterday, Olemgbe said that the decision was taken at the executive session.
The Speaker also announced that all standing committees belonging to the suspended members had been retrieved from them.
In a 20-minute seating, the Speaker made minor reshuffling of the standing committees. Some of the suspended members present during the announcement declined speaking to the press.
However, one of the lawmakers, who preferred to speak on the basis of anonymity, said: “The members were suspended for insubordination to constituted authorities of the House; of plotting to change the leadership of the House and sundry acts deemed to be unparliamentary.”
