Interrogate impact of government projects on citizens – Abia govt to Journalists

Journalists and other media practitioners in Abia State have been challenged to represent the interests of the people in their reportage.

A media consultant Mr Bankole Ebisemiju gave the advice in Umuahia, on Wednesday during a two-day training for media practitioners organized by the state government on Human Capital Development.

Ebisemiju who stressed the need for media workers to be consistent with facts, said that government projects and other programs should reflect in interest and the welfare of the people.

He noted that while government-produced reports on projects are important, the Journalist should still go ahead to subject the government information to checks to confirm how the projects will benefit the people.

Ebisemiju who cautioned the media practitioners against spreading fake reports, also said the training was designed to equip them with the skills in reporting health, agriculture, social security, education, infrastructure etc.

He advised journalists at the training to choose a particular sector in each work for proper identification of issues and make appropriate recommendations in Human Capital Development in the State.

Also speaking, Chairman of Abia State Civil Service Commission, Eno-Jerry Eze called for collaboration with the media in penetrating Human Capital Development activities in the State.

The Chairman of Abia State Civil Service Commission who is the State Focal Person of HCD, said the National Economic Council established Human Capital Development programs in 2018 to address poverty and create sustainable economic growth in certain thematic areas.
