Ipswich Town have received the signing of Luton Town winger Chiedozie Ogbene for a reported fee of £8 million.

Chiedozie Ogbene, who was born to Nigerian parents but represents Ireland’s national team, has committed to a four-year contract with the newly promoted Premier League club, making him their 10th signing so far this summer.

This signing comes in the wake of winger Wes Burns’ injury during Ipswich’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on the opening day of the season.

Expressing his enthusiasm about returning to the Premier League, Ogbene said, “I’m very excited and feel lucky to have this opportunity to play in the Premier League again. I’ve had very positive chats with the manager [Kieran McKenna] and for someone to believe in me, that I could play at this level again, means a lot to me and my family.”

Ogbene’s previous experience includes stints at Cork, Limerick, and Brentford before joining Luton from Rotherham on a free transfer last summer.

Ogbene made a strong impression in the Premier League last season, contributing five goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.

He was recorded as the second-fastest player in the top flight last season, achieving a speed of 36.93kph against Fulham in September. Despite his form, he couldn’t save Luton Town from being relegated.

In addition to Ogbene’s arrival, Ipswich is also in negotiations with Chelsea for the potential acquisition of striker Armando Broja before the upcoming transfer deadline.
