‘It Is Slave Wage’ – Sowore Rejects ₦70,000 New Minimum Wage Approved By Tinubu

Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has criticised the ₦70,000 approved on Thursday by President Bola Tinubu as the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

Sowore, in his reaction via a post on his account on the X platform, described the new minimum wage as slave wages and rejected it.

Naija News recalls President Tinubu announced the new minimum wage during a meeting held with leaders of the Trade Union Congress, TUC and the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, on Thursday in Abuja.

A statement by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed that the new minimum wage will be reviewed every three years.

The statement read, “President approves N70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers with promise to review the national minimum wage law every three years.

“President Tinubu also promised to find ways to assist the private sector and the sub-nationals to pay the minimum wage.

“President Tinubu announced the decisions at the meeting held with leaders of TUC and NLC on Thursday in Abuja, the second time the parties met in 7 days.

“The Labour leaders applauded President Tinubu for the fatherly gesture as the President also promised to use his discretionary powers meet the demands of university unions demanding unpaid 4 months salaries.”

However, Sowore, who rejected the figure, wrote: “Tinubu approves N70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

“WE REJECT SLAVE WAGES ON BEHALF OF NIGERIAN WORKERS!”
