Ivan Toney Snubs Chelsea Completes Move To Al-Ahli

Brentford’s and English striker Ivan Toney has completed his move to the Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli instead of moving to Chelsea.

This high-profile transfer came to fruition after Brentford accepted a substantial bid of around £40 million for Ivan Toney. The confirmation of this transfer was announced in the early hours of Saturday morning, August 31, 2024.

Recall that Chelsea, who also failed to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen this summer, wanted to sign Toney, but the Englishman preferred a move to the money-spinning Saudi Pro League.

Sharing his thoughts on Toney’s departure, Brentford boss Thomas Frank expressed his appreciation for having had the opportunity to work with the 28-year-old striker over the past four years.

Frank highlighted Toney’s exceptional goal-scoring record, noting that he has maintained an impressive average of more than one goal every two games.

He praised Toney’s contributions as a goalscorer, link-up player, and leader on the field, acknowledging the positive impact he had on the squad.

The coach said, “It’s been a pleasure to work with Ivan over the last four years.

“He has averaged more than one goal every two games, which is an unbelievable number.

“On the pitch, he has been a fantastic goalscorer, link-up player and leader. He has pushed the team, the squad and himself.”

Frank added: “Ivan leaves as a Brentford legend.”

Recall that Ivan Toney was part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad at Euro 2024. He scored a goal in three appearances, all as a late substitute.

During the 2022-23 Premier League season, Toney scored a career-high 20 goals, and he continued his scoring streak with four goals in his first five matches last season after returning from an eight-month suspension for breaching FA betting rules.
