A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has accused his colleague and Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Alhassan Doguwa, as being an obstacle to peace in Kano State.
Jibrin is a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), while Doguwa belongs to the APC. Both politicians have been throwing diatribes at each other.
In a statement at the weekend, the NNPP lawmaker alleged that Doguwa’s utterances were capable of brewing more tension in the Northwest state. “A peaceful Kano or otherwise will have consequences on the country,” Sani Paki quoted his principal as saying.
“I strongly believe people like Doguwa are the biggest enemies of his party and the President because of such deliberate divisive and reckless actions and utterances which are deepening the already tense atmosphere in Kano,” he added.
Jibrin stated that Doguwa should never have insulted Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor of the state. He continued: “Doguwa has repeatedly tried so hard to drag others, especially his party leaders, into the issues I raised with him as a result of his constant false and unwarranted attacks and insults on Kwankwaso.
“The reality is that this matter is about Hon Alhassan Ado Doguwa, him and him alone. It is about his reckless, insulting utterances and divisive character which he deploys to malign Kwankwaso and deepen the feud in Kano.
“Today, Doguwa stands tall as one of the biggest obstacles to peace in Kano.” The heated exchanges between both men began after Jibrin asked Doguwa to stop insulting Kwankwaso.
In an earlier response, Doguwa had said he was cleared by the courts of allegations of violence against him during the 2023 elections. Doguwa was detained at the time for allegedly instigating violence in Kano during the election, but the courts vindicated him. Doguwa said in clearing him of the charge, the court awarded him N25 million in damages “for unnecessarily harassing me and defaming my innocent character.”
“It was a naked political plot and a baseless machination designed to thwart the will of Allah (SWT) and the wishes of the electorate of T/Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency of Kano State who have always overwhelmingly voted for me. the statement reads.
“It’s pretty clear now and on records that I have been cleared. The judgments of three courts of competent jurisdictions declared me innocent of the alleged mischievous allegations against my innocent self,” he added. The lawmaker challenged Jibrin to disclose the “secrets” that would lead to his expulsion from the APC.
