Jigawa hands over Baturiya Games Reserve to Nigerian Govt

Jigawa State Government has handed over the Baturiya Wetland and Games Reserve to the Federal Government.

Conservator General of the Federation Ibrahim Musa Goni stated this while speaking at the official handing over of the reserve held at Government House, Dutse.

He said the Baturiya Wetland and Games Reserve was the first among the proposed nine parks to be taken over by the Federal Government.

He promised to address challenges and ensure full utilization of the park for the social and economic growth of the state.

Responding, Governor Umar Namadi expressed delight with the successful handing over of the reserve to the Federal Government.

He said the wetlands is a critical ecosystem supporting a variety of wildlife, including migratory birds, fish, and other amphibious creatures.

Namadi promised to continue supporting the National Park Service to ensure the park’s long-term sustainability.

The Baturiya Wetlands, often referred to as an international bird sanctuary, is renowned for its vast biodiversity and is home to approximately 400 species of migratory birds from as far away as Europe and Australia.
