A former governorship candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, is currently engaged in a closed-door session with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, along with several prominent chieftains of the Anambra APC.

The meeting is taking place at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.

Present at the meeting are Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, Anambra State APC Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, and the Deputy National Organising Secretary of the APC, Nze Chidi Duru.

This gathering comes on the heels of the ruling party’s recent announcement of its intensified efforts to gain control of Abia and Enugu States in the 2027 general elections.

According to Punch, while the exact agenda of the meeting has not been officially disclosed, sources indicate that the session may be focused on adopting Senator Ifeanyi Ubah as the APC’s governorship candidate for the next election in Anambra State.

According to an insider, “The ruling party has been seeking a heavyweight politician to wrest power from the APGA government in Anambra and may have settled for Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.”

Senator Ubah, who was re-elected to the Senate under the Young Progressive Party (YPP), defected to the APC in October 2023.

In his letter of defection, read at the Senate Chamber, Ubah cited insurmountable disagreements within his former party as the reason for his switch.
