In a bid to boost economic activities and enhance security in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has flagged off a 35.6-kilometer road project linking 62 agrarian communities.

The governor, who commended security agencies for their efforts in restoring stability to the area, noted that there had been relative peace in the last six months.

He expressed confidence that sustained security operations would lead to the revival of the local economy.

Speaking while flagging off the 35.6 kilometres on Saturday, said the road project, which would connect Bagoma to Gagumi through several villages, is expected to improve the social and economic conditions of the people.

“It will enhance the movement of people and agricultural produce from farms to markets, reduce post-harvest losses, and create direct and indirect jobs during the construction period,” he said.

He noted that the Rural Transformation Drive aimed to address infrastructural deficits, bridge the urban-rural divide, and boost agriculture.

He highlighted that his administration had prioritized infrastructure development, with 62 road projects totalling 817km launched across the state since 2023.

“My presence here to flag off the re-construction of this 35.6km road from Bagoma to Gagumi through Ungwan Fari, Idi Labo, Awaro, Tashan Keji, and Sabon Layi marks the beginning of the restoration of peace and stability to this long-suffering and troubled Local Government.

“Birnin Gwari Local Government is a major gateway to many parts of Nigeria. It is a resource-rich local government. It has huge mineral deposits and arable land for farming.

“Our administration’s Rural Transformation Drive is fast gathering momentum. We are addressing our infrastructural deficits, bridging the urban-rural divide, reinventing local economies, boosting agriculture, and making rural living a pleasurable experience,” the governor added.

The Emir of Birnin Gwari, Malam Zubair Maigwari II, thanked the governor and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for fulfilling their promises to bring developmental projects to the area.

He welcomed the news that President Tinubu has directed the reconstruction of the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway.
