Kaduna community requests military base to combat banditry

The Ruruma community in the Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State has appealed to the Federal Government to establish a military presence at its headquarters, Kwassam, to put an end to the incessant killings and abductions by bandits.

This appeal was made in a statement signed by the community’s National President, Mr Daniel Dallah, and made available to the press in the state on Sunday.

He emphasised the need for a military formation to ensure prompt action to restore security and protect lives and property in the area, adding that many people have been displaced over the years due to the ongoing violence.

“The military formation in Kwassam will enable displaced communities to return to their ancestral lands, where they have farms and agricultural produce. Currently, our traditional leader, Dauda Abdulsalam, the Pugom Kumana, has not been able to return home for several years due to an assassination attempt by bandits,” he lamented.

Dallah also questioned why the Executive Chairman of Kauru LGA had completely excluded Kwassam and the surrounding vulnerable communities in the Kumana Chiefdom from his security reports presented to the General Officer Commanding, 3rd Division Jos.

“The establishment of a military base in Kwassam, the headquarters of the Ruruma Community, will benefit the entire Kumana Chiefdom and other neighbouring communities, such as Dokan Karji, Sabon Gida Libere, Maikudumi, Fili, Unguwan Nabara, Mahuta, Sabon Layi, Kan’makama, Ungwan Isah, Ruwan Sanyi, Ungwan Danja, Ungwan Maizuma, Ungwan Zango, Ungwan Gayya, Ungwan Garkuwa, and Nasarawa, which currently have no military presence, not even a Police division,” he stated.

He expressed the community’s willingness to cooperate with the security agencies and the government, adding, “We are appealing to the Federal Government to intensify efforts in supporting our Governor, Sen. Uba Sani, as he responds to our plight.”
