The Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, has signed the Gender Responsive Procurement Policy.

This groundbreaking policy represents a key step in the state’s ongoing efforts to empower women and ensure a more inclusive economic landscape in the State.

The new policy aligns with the principles outlined in the Beijing Plan of Action, established 27 years ago, reinforcing Governor Sani’s commitment to gender inclusivity and equality.

The policy aims to leverage existing government processes to create broader economic opportunities for women-owned and women-led businesses in Kaduna State.

Speaking on the policy’s objectives, Sule Shu’aibu, SAN, the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, highlighted the government’s dedication to fostering a more inclusive economy.

“The policy reaffirms the state government’s commitment to ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach all members of society, particularly women,” he said.

“It promotes inclusivity, enabling women to contribute effectively to the state’s growth and development process. This strategic move is a key economic empowerment strategy of the Kaduna State government, aligning with the state’s medium-term development plan.”

The policy also aims to bridge the fiscal gap for social development investments by expanding economic opportunities for women entrepreneurs. “It is a collaborative ecosystem where government agencies, private sector, and development partners will align with this policy, providing expanded opportunities for women in Kaduna State,” added Shu’aibu.

Experts have praised Governor Sani’s signing of the Gender Responsive Procurement Policy, noting that it sets a new benchmark for women’s empowerment in the region.

The policy underscores the governor’s unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable economic environment, marking a pivotal moment in Kaduna State’s pursuit of gender equality and sustainable development.
