Kanayo O. Kanayo: “Why I Don’t Believe in Monogamy”

Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has openly shared his views on monogamy, stating that it is not aligned with African culture.

In a recent episode of ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast, Kanayo expressed his preference for polygamy, arguing that monogamy is an imported concept. “I don’t believe in one wife. It is not our culture. It is not our tradition. It is not who we are. These are imported things,” he stated.

Kanayo also revealed that he was unfamiliar with the concept of divorce until he moved to Lagos from the South East. He noted that, traditionally, Igbo men would rather remain in a marriage than seek a divorce. “I never knew anything about divorce until we came to Lagos. The Igbo man prefers to die in the marriage than divorcing,” he explained.

Despite his views, Kanayo is known to be married to one wife, Nneka Onyekwere.
