Kano Commissioner Narrowly Escapes As Daughter, Other Relatives Die In Fire Outbreak

Kano State Commissioner of Higher Education, Yusuf Kofar-Mata, has lost three members of his family to a fire outbreak on Wednesday.

Naija News understands that the commissioner, who narrowly escaped the disaster, lost his daughter, Maimuna, his elder sister, Khadija, and a close relative, Juwairiyya to the fire.

According to The Guardian, the commissioner’s residence in the Kofar-Mata metropolis in Kano was gutted by fire early Wednesday while the family was asleep.

A family source told the aforementioned publication that several valuables were destroyed during the unfortunate incident.

The spokesperson of the state fire service, Abdullahi Saminu, said the level of damage and cause of the inferno could not be ascertained immediately.

Meanwhile, Kofar-Mata expressed grief over the loss of three of his immediate family members.

Unto Allah we came and to him we shall return. I mourn the loss of my daughter Maimuna (Islam), my senior sister Hajiya Khadija, and my brother’s wife, Juwairiyya, who were all perished in the fire accident this morning.

“Their funeral prayers will be conducted at 11 am at Kofar-Mata quarters, Kano City today,” he said.

House Of Reps Member, Ekene Adams Is Dead

Meanwhile, the member representing Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency of Kaduna State in the House of Representatives, Ekene Abubakar Adams, is dead.

Naija News understands Adams, died on Tuesday morning, 16th July, 2024 after a brief illness. He was the chairman, House Committee on Sports until he passed away.

According to leadership, the lawmaker’s death was confirmed in a Whatsapp message by his close friend, Mike Obasi.

Hon. Adams, a former general manager of Kada City FC and Remo Stars, was elected into the House of Representatives on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) in 2023.

The death of the Kaduna federal lawmaker is the second to hit the House within a week following the death of Hon. Olaide Akinremi (Jagaban) from Oyo State, who passed away on Wednesday, July 10.

Recall that until his death, Akinremi represented the Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State.

According to a statement by the Spokesperson of the House, Hon Akin Rotimi, he was a distinguished and ranking member of the 10th Assembly, Rep. Akinremi who served as Chairman of the House Committee on Science Research Institutions.

He passed away this morning, Wednesday, July 10, 2024, after a brief illness. He was aged 51.
