Kano Court Restrains EFCC, Police From Arresting Governor’s Chief Of Staff

A Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Aisha Yau, has issued a restraining order preventing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Police from arresting and detaining the Chief of Staff to the Kano State Government, Shehu Wada Sagagi.

The order also prohibits any form of harassment, intimidation, or molestation of Sagagi by these authorities.

This development follows a case filed by Sagagi against the EFCC, the Northern Arewa Merger Group (APC), Hon Musa Mujahid Zaitawa, and the Commissioner of Police in Kano State.

The case stems from allegations of the diversion of Federal Government palliatives, which had been levelled against Sagagi by the Northern Youth Merger Group, a platform affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group had petitioned the EFCC to probe the alleged crime. Sagagi, however, has denied the accusations.

Justice Yau’s order provides temporary relief for Sagagi, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

The court has adjourned the case to September 3, 2024, for further proceedings.

This ruling temporarily halts any legal actions by the EFCC or the police in relation to the allegations, providing the Kano State Chief of Staff with a reprieve as the case progresses through the court.
