The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress has commended Governor Abba Yusuf for fulfilling his promise to implement the new N71,000 minimum wage for workers in the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the NLC described the move as a significant milestone in improving the welfare and living standards of the state workforce.

The State Chairman of the NLC, Kabiru A. Inuwa, thanked the governor for prioritising the needs of workers and demonstrating exceptional leadership.

“This implementation will undoubtedly boost the morale of workers, upgrade local spending, and contribute to the overall development of Kano State.

“We look forward to continued collaboration with the state government to ensure that the rights and welfare of all workers are upheld,” Inuwa stated.

The NLC further lauded Yusuf’s commitment to fair compensation, noting that it reflects a deep recognition of the contributions of the state’s labour force while promoting productivity and economic growth.

“It is a commitment to fair compensation which justifies not only the recognition of the hard work and contributions of our state’s labour force but also reinforces the government’s dedication to fostering a conducive environment for productivity and economic growth,” the statement read.

The union called on workers to reciprocate this goodwill with diligence and efficiency, urging them to remain committed to the public service ideals the state is known for.

In addition, Inuwa appealed to the governor to extend the wage increment to pensioners by reviewing the minimum pension in line with the new national minimum wage of N70,000.

“We equally urge His Excellency to look into the improvement of minimum pension as a result of the implementation of the new national minimum wage of N70,000.00, so they too can continue benefiting from His Excellency’s magnanimous gesture,” he added.

The NLC expressed its appreciation for the strides made by the state government in fostering harmonious labour relations and assured workers of its commitment to ensuring their welfare is upheld.
