Kwara State Govt Lifts Ban On Shuttle Buses, Taxis On Ahmadu Bello Way

1 week ago 24

The Kwara State Government has reversed it’s ban on certain categories of vehicles using the Ahmadu Bello Way.

It now allows shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing vehicles to operate on the route leading to the Government House.

The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, announced the development via a statement on Wednesday.

Speaking through the ministry’s Press Secretary, Olajide Abolarin, the commissioner clarified that that mini-shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing services are now permitted on Ahmadu Bello Way, which accommodates key facilities including the Government House, MDAs, and security installations

This clarification is necessary for public awareness,” the statement read.

However, Olododo reiterated that tricycles, motorcycles, and heavy-duty trucks remain restricted from the route, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order in the area.

Last week, the government had restricted several categories of vehicles from accessing Ahmadu Bello Way, directing the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency to begin immediate enforcement.

The restricted vehicles included tricycles (Keke Napep), commercial motorcycles (Okada), taxis, trucks, and heavy-duty vehicles.

Olododo noted that violators of the restrictions would face fines of up to ₦50,000.

Ahmadu Bello Way, recently rehabilitated, serves as a key access route for commercial vehicles heading to Tanke, Fate, and River Basin areas within the Ilorin metropolis.
