At least 22 players of Kwara United Football Club, Ilorin, Kwara State, have been laid off ahead of the next soccer season.

The general manager of the club, Bashir Badawiy, disclosed to sports journalists in Ilorin on Monday.

Badawiy said that 23 top stars from the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) have been recruited to fortify the club ahead of the 2024/25 NPFL season.

He added that top quality players have agreed to join the team, including Abayomi Samuel from 3SC, Jimi Iteji from Plateau United, top class goal stoppers, National team U17, U20, U23 and CHAN Eagles players, including Kazeem Badmus and Adamu Abubakar as well as Ifeanyi Ogba from NPFL Champions, Rangers International.

He called on the players to eschew indiscipline and work in line with the philosophy of the club and target ending the next season among the top three.

“Our expectation in the 2024/25 NPFL season is to finish among top three, we don’t want to struggle again; check our records in the last two seasons, we were among the top four and even qualified for continental,” he said.
