Two factory workers, who were rescued after they got trapped while working on a diesel reservoir in the Ikosi area of Lagos State, were confirmed dead on Saturday.

The workers had earlier been rescued by officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and men of the Lagos State Fire Service after falling inside the reservoir.

According to a statement by the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the incident occurred around 10 am on Saturday.

Oke-Osanyintolu stated that the victims fell into the reservoir while carrying out repair work.

He disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that one of the victims accidentally fell into the diesel reservoir, while the second victim was also trapped in an attempt to rescue his colleague.

The LASEMA boss noted that both victims were evacuated and transported to the hospital for further medical attention.

He, however, stated that the workers were confirmed dead at the hospital.

“The two male adults earlier rescued this morning by the LASEMA Response Team were resuscitated and transported to the hospital, unfortunately, despite all sustained medical efforts later died.

“No more updates on the development and operations have been concluded.“
