The Lagos State Sports Commission has launched the pilot edition of the “Lagos Active Challenge” across five locations in the state.
The initiative, designed to encourage physical activity among residents, was held at Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Adekunle Ifako-Ijaiye, Isolo, and Obanikoro.
Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, said the challenge aims to leverage the growing awareness of exercise’s importance in maintaining an active lifestyle.
“By engaging in aerobics, we are actually reducing health costs and taking a significant population away from hospitals. As a government, we acknowledge the importance of physical exercises and their impact on socio-economic advancement and development of the state,” Fatodu said.
“We want our citizens to continue to perform excellently and optimally at their respective offices, to give the best in terms of their capabilities and abilities.”
Abraham Abiodun, a participant at the Obanikoro location, lauded the initiative, saying, “It is not my first time engaging in exercises. I can even do a road jog from National Stadium to Maryland.”
Hannah Oregwe, another participant, said, “The importance of exercise to my body is indescribable. My little daughter encouraged me to imbibe an active and physical lifestyle.”
Both participants thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for promoting citizens’ well-being through physical activities.
The LSSC boss stressed that promoting the “Lagos Active Challenge” is a collective responsibility, urging all Lagosians to embrace a healthy lifestyle.
