A Primary Health Care (PHC) in Nigeria

The member representing Ohaozara/Onicha/ Ivo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Nkemkanma Kama, has expressed worry over the poor state of some primary health care centres in his constituency.

He warned that the rural health system might collapse unless urgent steps are taken to revitalise the centres.

Kama, who stated this during a tour of some projects he initiated in various communities in the constituency, also called for a total overhaul of the healthcare system.

The lawmaker said he decided to tour the centres to enable him to assess critical issues in his constituency, adding that he will immediately embark on the reconstruction and revitalisation of some primary healthcare facilities in the area.

He said he would collaborate with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) to handle some of the projects.

Kama expressed satisfaction over the projects he attracted with many of them completed and others at various stages of completion.

They include water boreholes, solar street lights, primary healthcare centres, among others, adding that all of them will be ready by December.

“The primary healthcare centre in Ukawu, for instance, is mind-boggling, and I can’t understand why that community would not have a functional centre.”

The lawmaker also visited a makeshift bamboo bridge at Ameke- Ishiagu in Ivo Local Council and a fallen bridge at Ukawu, in Onicha Local Council, appealing to Governor Francis Nwifuru to come to the aid of the two communities by providing a new bridge there.
