The lawmaker representing Badagry Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Sesi Whingan, on Monday, inaugurated an initiative to improve the learning environment and enhance educational resources for public primary schools in Badagry.
Speaking at the event tagged: “Strategic Educational Empowerment Programme’’, Whingan said it was designed to provide much-needed educational materials to public schools in the three councils in Badagry.
The lawmaker, who was represented by Mr Wale Adesina, said the programme was sponsored by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria.
According to Whingan, the initiative seeks to uplift the learning experience for primary school pupils and ensure that students in those communities have the necessary tools to excel in their education.
“The items procured will be distributed through collaboration with SMEDAN, including huge numbers of essential teaching aids such as whiteboards, chalkboards, exercise books, school bags, food flasks, stationery sets, and packs of pencils.
“The materials will be evenly distributed to all public primary schools across the Badagry Federal Constituency,” he said.
Adesina, on his own, commended the lawmaker for his continued commitment to the development of Badagry and its people, particularly in the area of education.
“This programme is a testament to Whingan’s dedication to creating lasting positive change in the lives of young people in Badagry.
“By equipping our schools with these essential materials, we are investing in the future of our children,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that symbolic presentations were made to representatives from various primary schools in attendance.
NAN also reports that the education materials include 2,000 whiteboards, 300 blackboards, 200 dusters, pencils and crayons, 350 staplers, and 1,000 scientific calculators.
Others are 2,000 mathematical sets, 5,000 school bags and lunch food packs.
No fewer than 57 primary schools and 16 secondary schools in Badagry will benefit from the empowerment.
Also speaking, the Badagry Local Government Education Authority, Mrs. Modinat Adebayo, promised that staff and students of the schools would use the materials judiciously.
She said that the generous support from Whingan, through the collaboration with SMEDAN, would make a significant impact in improving the quality of education and empowering students to thrive academically.
