Former Nice coach Didier Digard was named on Monday as the new coach of Ligue 1 side Le Havre.

The 37-year-old, who started his playing career at the club, has signed a two-year deal.

He replaces Luka Elsner, who left for Reims after steering Le Havre to 15th place last season to keep them in France’s top tier.

“Welcome home,” said the club in a video on X.

As a player, Digard also had spells with Ligue 1 clubs Paris Saint-Germain and Nice, and played in the English Premier League for Middlesbrough and La Liga with Real Betis and Osasuna.

He acted as caretaker coach at Nice from January 2023 following the dismissal of Lucien Favre but gave way at the end of the season to the Italian Francesco Farioli, instead taking over the club’s reserve team.
