2 months ago 34

In response to the recent Supreme Court judgment endorsing financial autonomy for local governments, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured that the state’s local government funds have always been handled appropriately, untouched by state interference.

Speaking after voting in the local government elections at Ward 6, Unit 33 in Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori clarified that the Supreme Court’s decision does not impact Delta State, citing that nearly N15 billion allocated to local governments remains intact and unmeddled.

Governor Oborevwori, a staunch advocate for autonomy across government tiers, expressed his ongoing support for independent financial control for the legislature and judiciary.

He confidently predicted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates would emerge victorious in the elections, although the polls experienced low voter turnout.

Observations at popular locations like Igbudu Market and major roads in Warri South, Uvwie, and the governor’s hometown in Osubi revealed business as usual with minimal election day disruptions.

Despite assurances of peaceful elections, the presence of security personnel was noted to be minimal, with the polls scheduled to close by 2 pm.

As the community awaits the election outcomes, Governor Oborevwori’s comments highlight a commitment to uphold the financial and operational independence of local governments in Delta State.
