Flood victims in Adankolo in Lokoja LGA of Kogi State have pleaded for an urgent government intervention.

They also appealed to international organizations to urgently come to their aid in order to ameliorate the impact of the disaster.

Several houses, public buildings and farm produce were destroyed in the area, leaving residents in abject poverty.

In Adankolo New Layout on Sunday, some flood victims disclosed that they were ready for resettlement but are seeking the government’s support.

They explained that Adankolo community is persistently ravaged by flood annually.

Madam Patricia Ameh, a resident and mother of nine, revealed that the people of the area now live in poverty due to the devastating effect of the continued flood on the people, a situation that calls for concern by all.

Patricia, who is a widow, said that the people are ready to relocate but have no means.

“My building has been submerged already, but I don’t have money to pack my property from the building. I didn’t have money to rent another house. I am appealing to the government to assist those of us affected by the flood.”

Another flood victim identified as Abdullahi Sadiq lamented that the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KSEMA), has not given them any relief items.

He added that they were vulnerable to all kinds of water borne diseases and infections due to lack of good drinking water and toilet facilities.

Recall that the Kogi State Government has recently established 42 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps across eight LGAs as a proactive measure towards mitigating the impact of floods.
