The Governing Council of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) in Kogi State, has announced the dismissal of four lecturers over misconduct related to sexual harassment and improper examination practices.

The decision to dismiss the lecturers was made after investigations into allegations of sexual harassment and examination misconduct brought against them, a move which reflects the university’s firm stance on upholding academic integrity and a harassment-free atmosphere for students and staff.

The university’s council, after its second meeting, which was held recently in Lokoja, under the leadership of Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, lauded the efforts of the university’s management for adhering to due process throughout the investigation.

The council, however, made it clear that any form of unethical behaviour would not be tolerated at the institution, emphasising its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the university.

The council underscored that such behaviour as exhibited by the dismissed lecturers was highly prohibited in the academic environment, vowing to take further action if necessary.

They also called on the university management to address other pending misconduct cases swiftly, particularly a high-profile matter in the Faculty of Science that has garnered significant media attention.

The council maintained that no allegation of wrongdoing in the institution would be ignored or swept under the carpet.

It also issued a stern warning to staff and faculty members of the institution to adhere to ethical standard.

To ensure a safe and respectful learning environment for all, the Council also cautioned students to speak out if they experience any form of harassment or exploitation.
