The Senator representing Imo East Senatorial District, Francis Ezenwa, has dumped the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress.
The defection was announced by the Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, during the plenary on Tuesday.
In his defection letter, Onyewuchi cited the crisis within the LP as the reason for his defection.
He also stated that his decision was made in accordance with the Constitution.
After the letter was read, Ezenwa was welcomed by APC lawmakers and was escorted to his new seat in the APC section of the Senate Chamber.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Senate suspended its rules to admit the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, into the chamber in accordance with Senate rules.
Uzodimma, the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, and his team were present to witness Ezenwa’s defection.
