The Chairman, International Law Association (ILA) Arbitration Committee, Dr. Tolu Aderemi has called for Nigerian Legislators to work on a part-time basis.

He said the Nigerian legislative system needs to be improved, but it will require fundamental changes from the qualification requirements to the rules of procedure and overall expectations placed on the Lawmakers.

Aderemi, Director of the JAALS Foundation disclosed this in his address at the Foundation’s 6th yearly conference. He questioned the gaps in qualifications and effectiveness of Nigerian lawmakers.

“When you look at the qualifications, parliamentary procedures, and policy outcomes in other countries, it’s clear Nigeria’s National Assembly is lagging,” he said.
