The Police on Friday arraigned a 32-year-old man, Ojo Oluwaseun, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing of Arco pipe and breach of peace.

The defendant, of no fixed address, was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace.

The Prosecutor, Insp Olubu Apata, had informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 11 at about 06:25 a.m. at the Old garage area of Ado-Ekiti.

Apata said that the defendant stole three Arco pipe, valued at N100,000, one of the materials used for the construction of an ongoing flyover project, which is property of Ekiti Government.

Apata said that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 302 and 181(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000, with one surety in like sum.

Ajibade said that the surety must be a leader in his community or a chief in his locality, and then adjourned the case till November 21 for hearing.
