A resident of Osun State, Segun Olowookere, who was sentenced to death for stealing chicken, has regained his freedom.
Naija News gathered that Olowookere was released from the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison following his pardon by Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.
Nollywood actress, Biola Adebayo, in a video posted via social media on Monday, was seen standing with Olowookere outside the prison after the man regained his freedom.
She was full of praise to Nigerians for their support and also appreciated Governor Adeleke for his intervention.
“This is Segun Olowookere, we are just leaving Kirikiri. He is finally out of the correctional centre. Thank you so much for the love and support that we got.
“Segun is a very good guy. The testimonies at the correctional centre were amazing. We are glad that he is out now for good.
“Thank you to Governor Ademola Adeleke, we are grateful,” Adebayo said in the video.
It would be recalled that Olowookere was one of the 53 convicts pardoned by Governor Adeleke on December 26.
The predicament of the Osun State resident, who was sentenced to death by hanging for stealing a chicken and eggs in 2010, was brought to the limelight after a viral interview with Biola Adebayo.
Olowookere’s parents claimed some police officers in Osun State wrongfully arrested their son.
Olanrewaju, his father, alleged that a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), requested money for his release, but the inability to pay resulted in his son’s wrongful imprisonment.
