May 30th Biafra Day: CP Warns Against Undermining National Security

Ahead of the illegal annual Biafra Day celebration normally being enforced throughout the defunct Eastern region today, May 30th, the commissioner of police in charge of Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has warned those planning to enforce this year‘s ceremony to stop it.

He warned that his command would not condone any act that threatened national security.

In a statement issued on his behalf yesterday by the spokesman of the state police command, superintendent of police, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, CP Orutugu stated that a joint security teams made up of the personnel of the command, State Security Services (SSS), Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Immigration and supported by the Nigerian Army have been set up to patrol every part of the state to forestall any acts of criminality.

CP Orutugu stated that the joint security teams have been deployed to take over strategic cities and towns including Awka, Onitsha, Ihiala, Ekwulobia, etc, and, also announced dedicated telephone numbers members of the public could call to promptly reach the police command in case of any threat to public peace and lives of residents in any part of the state.

CP, Orutugu, however, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration between the people of the state and the command towards intensifying security in the state and expressed optimism that with the development, any attempt to create a breakdown of security would be nipped in the bud.

The statement by the police command‘s spokesman partly read „Following the outcome of a closed-door meeting of the Anambra Security Service commanders ahead of an illegal sit-at-home on 30th May 2025, by some criminal elements, the Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD has noted the increased motivation of the police and other security agencies stemming from the cooperation and support received from Ndi Anambra in joining voices to condemn any act that threatens our national peace.

“This collective effort has further strengthened the resolve of the security agencies to tackle threats to peace and security in the State, fostering a safer environment through Community-Police collaboration.

“Given the above, the police-led Joint Security Force comprising the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), other Security agencies as well as the army and navy complementing the security deployment, has intensified patrols and taken over the strategic junctions in Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, Ihiala, Oraifite and many other parts of the State.

“This demonstrates the commitment of the Security Agencies to maintaining security and order as their heightened presence aims to deter criminal activities, reassure the public, and provide a safe environment for citizens and visitors alike.
