Arteta aims a subtle dig at Chelsea

Speaking in an interview the 42-year-old emphasised that despite interest from other clubs and potential big-money moves, Calafiori chose to join Arsenal.

The 42-year-old Spanish coach detailed that he spoke with the Italian star several times to ensure the deal remained on track.

As quoted by Metro Sports, Arteta said:

“I spoke to him once or twice and was aware of other teams' interest. I wasn’t certain if we could secure him, but he was clear: ‘Let me know when you’re ready, my bags are packed, and I just want to come to Arsenal.’Those were his exact words. When you have someone so eager and determined to join us and help improve the team, it’s incredibly powerful. As a club, we should be very proud of that.”

Arteta’s comments seemed to be a subtle dig at Chelsea, especially given Calafiori’s remarks about choosing the best project for his career before leaving Bologna.

Calafiori joins an already solid Arsenal defence, which conceded only 29 goals in the Premier League last season, according to Fotmob. The former Basel defender is expected to provide additional depth both in central defence and at left-back.

Chelsea gives Maresca club target

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Maresca has been tasked with restoring Chelsea to its glory days.

The Italian coach, renowned for his successful stint at Leicester City where he won the English Championship, takes over following Mauricio Pochettino's departure.

Chelsea's decision to replace the highly experienced Pochettino with the less seasoned Maresca has sparked considerable discussion.
